U2U RSS Feed for SharePoint 2003

Expose your SharePoint content with RSS feeds without touching your SharePoint Portal or Team Sites

Deployed on a Microsoft SharePoint Server 2003, this application allows intranet or internet users to subscribe to SharePoint lists as RSS feeds.

  • Numerous applications can be used to read the RSS feed, including add-ins for Microsoft Outlook.
  • An easy to use application allows administrators to select the SharePoint lists to be made available as RSS feeds, and to set various parameters such as the feed name.
  • An XML Web Service is installed on the SharePoint Server 2003, for readers to subscribe to.
  • To make the bundle complete, an ASP.Net page lists the available feeds, so users can subscribe to a feed by simply clicking a hyperlink.

U2U RSS Feed for Microsoft SharePoint 2003 generates RSS standard compliant feeds. Users may not even know that the powerful SharePoint Services 2003 are used to produce the feed content.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP, Windows Server 2003
  • Framework 1.1 should be installed

Installation

  • Server installation
Install the U2U.SharePoint.RSSFeeds.Server.msi package on your SharePoint server. You can use any Web Site or Virtual Directory, remember that when you use the site which is extended with SharePoint, you have to add the chosen Virtual Directory needs to be excluded in SharePoint Central Administration. The RSS Feeds server uses a configuration file (config.xml). The account you will use to do the administration of the RSS Feeds must have read, write and modify rights on that file.
  • Client installation
Install the U2U.SharePoint.RSFeeds.Client.msi package on the machine you want to use to do the RSS Feeds administration. This machine doesn’t have to be your server machine, you can use any client machine as long as the .NET Framework version 1.1 is installed to it. When you start the installed application for the first time you have to specify the location of the configuration web service. This webservice is located in the Virtual Directory or Web Site you’ve chosen during the server installation (e.g. http://yourServer/yourVirtualDirectory/ConfigurationServices.asmx). By default the administration tool will use the credentials of the current user, if you’re running as a user that is not known on the server, you can specify custom credentials as well.
